The overall goals of the CCE program are to:
-
involve medical students in a variety of
clinical environments and medical practices;
-
provide medical students with opportunities to
interact with physicians, nurses, other health-care providers and
patients in various health care settings;
-
enhance medical students’ awareness of the
cultural, economic and social issues that affect health-care delivery
and health behavior;
-
support the development of clinical and
psychosocial skills relevant to the course of study;
-
integrate knowledge acquired at a CCE site with
that acquired in the other components of the curriculum; and
-
reinforce the relevance of knowledge, skills
and attitudes learned in various components of the first two years of
the curriculum.
The CCE Program begins the second week of fall quarter for incoming
students. Prior to beginning the program, health and safety
standards must be met and training completed to satisfy Occupational Safety and
Health Administration (OSHA) and Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements. Specific information
on serologic proof of immunity requirements can be found in the Student
Survival Manual within the OU-HCOM Web site and on Blackboard. OSHA and HIPAA
training will be provided during orientation for incoming students. |
