Once all of your application materials have been received and your file
is complete, you will be given consideration for a personal interview.
The selection committee reviews files from July to March, searching
for outstanding candidates. Out of over 2,400 applications, approximately
220 will be selected for an on-campus interview.

If you are selected for an interview, you will be notified
of your appointment via regular mail.
Interviews are conducted once a week on Fridays from late
September to mid April. A maximum of twelve candidates
will be invited for each day.
The interview day begins at 8:45 a.m. at the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine
in
Grosvenor
Hall. The morning session includes admission,
curricular and university information as well as an OU-HCOM facilities
tour and
an Ohio University van tour. At lunch you will meet current OU-HCOM
students and have an opportunity to learn their perspectives on our
program. Beginning
at 1:00 p.m. is the first of three one-half hour individual interviews.
Your interview team will most likely consist of a clinical faculty
member (D.O.), a biomedical or basic science faculty member (Ph.D.),
and an
administrator. The interview day will conclude no later than 3:30
p.m. unless you have expressed an interest in the D.O./Ph.D. program.
Candidates interested in the D.O./Ph.D. program will have an information
session with the program coordinator from 3:40 to 4:10 p.m. At 4:00 p.m., the selection committee will convene and give their
status
recommendations. At this meeting, candidates will either be admitted,
placed on the alternate list or declined for admission.
Students admitted to OU-HCOM will be notified the next business day via e-mail
(yet another reason to make sure we have your correct address!). All
candidates will receive a letter detailing their status within one week
after their interview. Candidates who have been placed on the alternate
list or declined are encouraged to contact the Office of Admissions
for additional feedback and counseling.
If you are traveling a great distance to Athens for your interview,
you are encouraged to arrive in Athens the night before. There are many
area accommodations close to campus. If
you like, you can even arrange to spend the night with a current
medical student. Details about this
opportunity will be outlined in your interview information packet.
