Instructions for making an appeal to the Student Educational Budget

There are several types of appeals listed below.  If you wish to be considered for one of the following appeals, please read below and submit appropriate documentation:

Transportation:

Transportation expenses associated with essential car repairs, incurred during the current academic year, not reimbursed by insurance and exceeding the educational budget amounts. 

       Attach letter explaining circumstances and costs not reimbursed by car insurance-appeals only cover cost of repairs needed to keep vehicle operational, which are not already included in the educational budget

       For required maintenance repairs, attach paid receipt from auto repair service

       For insurance repairs, attach estimate and paid receipt

Child Care Allowance: Available to OU-HCOM students who are single parents with children or who have spouse that are working or enrolled full time. Please note that the appeals for projected daycare costs may be subjected to verification at the end of the academic year.  Audit findings that differ from the appeal may result in the student having to return funds. Your appeal amount will be limited to these amounts.

 Dependent Child Allowance: Available to OU-HCOM students with dependents.  This appeal is intended for students who meet certain financial aid income guidelines.  Annual limits apply.  For details, feel free to call the financial aid coordinator.

       Submit letter requesting a review of FAFSA data to determine eligibility

Change of Income: Available to OU-HCOM student whose current year income is less than their previous year’s income. 

       Complete and attach form available on the web: Change of Income Form.    

Attach final paycheck showing earnings to date

For spouse, if applicable, attach a letter from employer indicating last date of employment

Medical Expenses:

Unusually high medical expenses not reimbursed by insurance and exceeding the medical allowances in the educational budget.  This appeal is limited to the OU-HCOM student’s medical expenses only incurring during the current academic year.  Medical expenses for family members may not be included in an appeal.

       Attach a letter explaining circumstances and costs not reimbursed by insurance, which are not already included in the educational budget

       Attach insurance documentation of reimbursed costs

       Attach receipts of medical expenses paid

Costs associated with disability accommodation

       Requires a letter from the student to the director of student affairs explaining circumstances

       Director will identify other documentation required on individual circumstances
