The University Medical Associates (UMA)
Diabetes/Endocrine Center has an extensive patient
database compiled in a commercial program (Praxis® by
Infor-Med Corporation). This program is fully HIPAA
compliant for patient confidentiality. Pertinent
information from this clinical patient database is
electronically encrypted and transferred to the
Biorepository Database; this allows for compilation of
important demographic and clinical information about the
specimens obtained from patients with specific endocrine
disease states who agreed to participate in the creation
of the Biorepository. The Biorepository database
catalogs encrypted samples using a de-identifying bar
code to protect patient confidentiality.
Freezerworks® is used to manage and locate the bar coded
samples in the ultra-low freezers. Upon procurement of
the samples from the patient, clinical information is
electronically transferred from UMA to the Freezerworks®
program. Shown below are examples of clinical data
fields. |
