The
Post-Baccalaureate Program, a Health Careers
Opportunities Program at Ohio University, seeks to
enhance the preparation of students with strong
potential who have been unsuccessful at gaining
entrance to OU-COM. |
The
program focuses on serving Appalachian students as
well as underrepresented minority
students (Black or African American, American Indian
or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific
Islander, Hispanic or Latino, and any Asian other
than Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Asian
Indian or Thai). |

The Post-Bac program consists of one academic year
plus participation in the Prematriculation Program
for all students. To qualify for the program,
students must have applied to OU-COM, completed the
interview process and been denied admission to OU-COM.
Once accepted to the Post-Bac Program, students are
guaranteed admission to OU-COM for the academic year
following their Post-Baccalaureate program, if they
maintain a 3.0 GPA on prescribed course work and
attend and participate in other required activities.

Program Components:
An individualized course of study for each
Post-Baccalaureate student, including study in
biology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, human
anatomy, histology, physiology, immunology,
embryology, microbiology, neuroanatomy,
study/learning skills, medical terminology,
endocrinology, virology, and bacteriology.
Selection Criteria:
all students accepted for the program must have:

U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status
- if a permanent resident, you must provide a copy of permanent resident card
- if birthplace is outside of the U.S., proof of naturalization must be provided (a copy of a U.S. passport or a certificate of naturalization)
- baccalaureate
degree from an accredited college or university
• completed application to OU-COM
- completed
minimum course work required for admission to
OU-COM
- taken the MCAT
within the last three years prior to enrolling
in the program
- been interviewed
by the OU-COM Selection Committee, and been
denied admission to OU-COM
Financial Aid:
Financial aid is available for those who qualify in
the form of tuition waivers and student loans.
