The
Ohio University College Heritage College of
Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) was founded on a
promise: to provide Ohio with more primary care
physicians, focusing on underserved areas. Thanks to
our faculty, students and alumni, we’ve kept that
promise for almost 40 years. In recognition of that
commitment, in 2011 OU-HCOM received a $105
million award from the Osteopathic Heritage
Foundations, the largest private donation
ever to a college or university in Ohio. With this
transformational beginning and your help, we’ll keep
the promise – and honor our heritage – into the
future.
The Promise Lives: the Campaign for the Ohio
University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine
aims to achieve OU-HCOM’s Vision 2020 goals of
expanding osteopathic education, promoting
diversity and public service, and providing health
care access to underserved populations. We will do
this by increasing support to students and faculty
and strengthening our community health programs.
Scholarships are an important part of our campaign.
For instance, the John A. Brose, D.O.,
Primary Care Endowed Scholarship will
support an outstanding medical student who, like Dr.
Brose, will carry on the legacy of primary care and
leadership in medicine. With the challenges facing
our current generation of medical students,
especially those who want to make a difference with
a career in primary care, it is important that we
support our aspiring osteopathic physicians. This is
an opportunity for each of us to give back in honor
of those who helped pave the way for our very own
education.
Now approaching our 35th anniversary, our partners
and friends have played an important role in shaping
the college’s success. From the construction of the
Osteopathic Heritage Foundations and Charles R. and
Marilyn Y. Stuckey
Academic & Research Center – to the $105 million
gift from the Osteopathic Heritage Foundations – to
the recent dedication of the Heritage Clinical
Training and Assessment Center & Community Clinic,
your support ensures that we can continue our quest
to become the leading osteopathic education,
research and care institution in the nation.
