Welcome to Global Health Initiative's preparation section for International Experiences. The information found here will help you prepare for your time abroad. Please take the time to read through the information to gain a greater understand of Global Health and your role in it!! 

The information will:

  • help you plan and think about an international experience;

  • give you information about Global Health as a whole;

  • describe some of the medical and clinical conditions that you may encounter; and

  • review the travel materials/forms that you need to complete.

Our hope is that you or your group will use this site to not only better prepare for your trip, but also to gain new insights and perspectives that will enhance your trip and help you integrate your experience into your clinical practice and medical career after you return.

  Traveling Abroad (Powerpoint) - The PowerPoint used during the Pre-departure workshop which is required for any individual traveling through programs managed by the Global Health Initiative.  (Some programs have their own workshops.)  The PowerPoint can also be used as a guide for the online material.
   
  Tropical Medicine Learning Module * (PDF) - The "Tropical Disease Learning Module" was created for the SHARE Kenya program and is available for download by gracious consent of the author listed below.  This guide focuses on medicine in Kenya and treatment options may differ depending on location, but the guide is helpful in reviewing common tropical diseases.
