The Honduras medical program has been canceled for
spring 2012 due to a change in the security
situation in Honduras. University officials
will continue to assess the security situation and
we hope to return to Honduras in the future.

| Medical
Students will join other health care professionals
in training and practice to provide surgical and
general medical care to the underserved living on
the "north coast" of Honduras near they city of La
Ceiba. The basic
trip will
consist of a preoperative clinic, perioperative and
surgical care focused on hernia repairs and
cholecystectomies based in Hospital Suizo, a not for
profit facility serving the working poor. The
extended trip
will include a postoperative clinic, general medical
clinic in an underserved community, and additional
Honduran cultural exposure. |

Eligibility: This program is open to medical students
who have completed at least two years of training, interns, residents,
practicing physicians, other allied health care
students and professionals. Special needs include an
anesthesia provider, preop / postop nursing, OR
personnel, and additional surgeon. |

Requirements: Team members will be required to
participate in a cross cultural/medical orientation
program online. Spanish language is helpful, but not
necessary. Participants need to be able to be flexible in regards to
time, transportation, food, climate and housing
accommodations while in Honduras. |
