The Health
Sciences Center Global Health Initiative
is a partnership of the
College of Health Sciences and
Professions and the
Heritage
College of Osteopathic Medicine
in partnership with the
Center for International Studies.
The Global Health Initiative offers a
number of global health programs to promote
multicultural awareness and to involve
students, faculty and staff in research,
education and outreach activities abroad.

Global health programs
offered by the Global Health Initiative are designed to: |
- improve cultural sensitivity
- improve/develop language communication skills - regionally specific
- give exposure to diseases not seen in this hemisphere
- provide the opportunity for personal growth
- facilitate the educational exchange of information
- help students hone their history, physical, etc. skills
- provide opportunities for students to be involved in all levels of research
- increase exposure of osteopathic medicine beyond the borders of the United States
- facilitate a global perspective of health, disease, and healthcare delivery systems
- provide opportunities for participants to participate in outreach.

Mission
The Global Health Initiative promotes improved
preventive and primary care, community based
healthcare and research, locally and worldwide, by
expanding collaborative opportunities to view health
from a global perspective. By engaging OHIO
Faculty and students in multi-disciplinary global
health education, research and outreach, GHI strives
to build awareness of global health issues, prepare
students to work with diverse and underserved
populations and foster an understanding of the
connections among health policy, sociocultural,
political and environmental factors.
