Symposium to feature expanded poster
competition
Contest open to entries from Ohio and
surrounding states

December 3, 2010
(ATHENS, Ohio) In 2011, the Ohio
University Heritage College of Osteopathic
Medicine (OU-HCOM), the Centers for
Osteopathic Research and Education
(CORE), and the Ohio Osteopathic
Association (OOA) are announcing their
first Regional Osteopathic Poster
Exhibition and Competition as part of
the annual Ohio Osteopathic Symposium.
The event — which will take place on
April 30 at the Hilton at Easton Town
Center in Columbus, Ohio — will be open
to students, interns and residents,
faculty, medical administrators and
practicing physicians from six states:
Ohio, Michigan Indiana, Kentucky, West
Virginia and Pennsylvania.
Previous poster competitions and
exhibitions by the groups were
restricted to those living, studying
and/or working in Ohio, said Grace
Brannan, PhD, CORE research director.
“We want to be able to include everyone,
not just those living in one state,”
Brannan said. “Physicians and medical
trainees in other states have something
to show, too.”
Brannan said having representation from
multiple locations will generate
cross-collaboration among different
osteopathic groups and expose students
to other types of research.
The poster competition is open to
students, interns and residents in two
categories: clinical and biomedical
research, and case reports. First place
posters for students, interns or
residents in each category will receive
$1,000, and second place recipients will
receive $500.
The poster exhibition is open to
faculty, administrators, and practicing
physicians on topics such as
clinical/biomedical research, case
reports, health policy and educational
issues. The latter two are restricted to
only faculty and administrators, and no
prizes will be awarded.
The 250-word abstracts for posters are
due by Jan. 31, 2011, and should be sent
to the CORE Research Office.
