AOA President to give presentation during campus visit
The Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine proudly hosts Karen Nichols, D.O., the first woman president of the American Osteopathic Association, during a visit to campus today and Tuesday.
Nichols, the 114th president of the AOA, will meet with OU-COM administrators, faculty and students, and give a noon luncheon presentation about issues students will face as osteopathic physicians. In addition to her AOA presidency, which is a year-long appointment, Nichols is the dean of the Midwestern University/Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine.
The student presentation, which features a question and answer format, will take place at noon Tuesday, Jan. 11, in Irvine 194 and will also be available through videoconference to all CORE sites. Read more on the OU-COM Web site at http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/News/press/Nichols/index.htm

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Research and Scholarly Advancement Fellowship program seeks faculty mentors
OU-COM is seeking faculty mentors for this summer’s Research and Scholarly Advancement Fellowship (RSAF), which provides summer research experience to medical students under faculty direction.
All OU-COM faculty members are eligible and may work with students in ongoing research projects within their laboratory or practice, or in student-initiated projects, offering faculty direction. The primary role of a faculty mentor is to provide guidance and collaboration to help the fellow meet all of the requirements of the fellowship program.
Project descriptions and RSAF mentor/project information is due Monday, Jan. 17, and should provide as much information as possible to ensure the best experience for students. Due to the limitation of funds and competitiveness of the program, faculty members are not guaranteed placement of a fellow this summer. For more information and application forms, contact Jessica Winget, Office of Research and Grants manager, at wingettj@ohio.edu or 593-2336.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Faculty Development Tidbit: Teaching Tip #7: Sample Quizzes and Tests
Provide students with sample quizzes and tests. Students can then become familiar with your style of asking questions and testing formats.
NOTE FROM STEVE: as a quick lecture activity, and to garner student engagement, ask them to submit a test question on the topic just covered using their computer or mobile devise. These “student generated” test items give you a window into their understanding and can possibly jump start some new test items.
Find more tips at your OU-COM & CORE faculty development Web resources: www.oucom.ohiou.edu/fd/programs.htm or www.ohiocore.org/cf/index.htm. If you have a great strategy that seems to always work, please send it to me, and I’ll include it in a future Faculty Development Tidbit.
