AOA OPTI on-site inspection scheduled for this week

OU-COM and CORE will host  a team of distinguished guests on campus Wednesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 9. This is an extremely important visit by American Osteopathic Association inspectors who will be conducting an on-site visit in regard to the renewed accreditation for the CORE.

CORE Executive Director Harvey Schwartz asks all faculty, staff and students to keep work areas looking neat and to recognize how critical their visit is to both OU-COM and the CORE’s reputation and success. AOA inspectors will be meeting with a variety of OU-COM and CORE staff during the two day visit in person and via videoconference. Questions about the inspection can be made to Schwartz at his Columbus office at 614-544-1793, his Athens office at 597-3155, or via email at schwarth@ohio.edu.

College name change information

As announced with the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation’s transformational gift to the college, in recognition of our major benefactor, the college’s name is slated to change to the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. The name will only officially change after the Ohio University Board of Trustees vote on the issue during their Thursday, June 23, and Friday, June 24, meetings in Athens. Until that time, we are still the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-COM).

Please continue to use your stationary and other OU-COM promotional items. When it comes time for you to order new stationary, please order as you normally would through University Print Resources.

The OU-COM office of communications will be working on an institution-wide visual branding/identity program, including the redesign of our “logo,” college seal, identities for our centers, institutes and programs, among many other pieces.

If you have questions, please do contact Karoline Lane, director of communication, at lanek@ohio.edu, 593-2261, or Marie Graham, associate director, graham@oucom.ohiou.edu, 593-2408.

OU-COM sends new graduates onto residencies, internships

Of the 108 new osteopathic physicians who graduated on Saturday, June 4, 61s selected mentors, 21 of whom were alumni that OU-COM welcomed back to campus. Approximately 63 percent of the graduates will continue their postdoctoral education in Ohio, and 40 percent will enter residency programs in one of the CORE hospitals.

“We take great pride in all of our graduates,” Brose said. “Each new OU-COM graduate physician and surgeon will take with her or him the respect, integrity, and compassion that is the heart of osteopathic medical training. Wherever they train, we will be forever proud that they are osteopathic physicians and that they represent the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Ohio University.”
