2011 DOC Awards will honor faculty, staff and students

            The Distinguished Osteopathic Commitment (DOC) ceremony will take place Wednesday, April 20, to honor fellow faculty, staff and students for their dedication and contributions to OU-COM. The Student D.O. of the Year and the Osteopathic Mentor awards will be among the 60 awards to be presented throughout the evening.

The event, which includes dinner, is complimentary for OU-COM students, faculty and staff. Guests are also welcome but will be charged $10 each for attendance this year due to budget reductions. Tickets for the event are now available and can be picked up at the Office of Student Affairs (G018). Guest tickets can be purchased by check made out to “OU-COM SGA” or cash. The last day to pick up tickets is Friday, April 8. Trustees approve name change for institute

The Ohio University Board of Trustees on Friday approved a resolution changing the name of OU-COM’s Institute of Neuromusculoskeletal Research to the Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute (OMNI). Provost Pam Benoit said the name change better reflects the institute’s inter- and cross-disciplinary research focus.

OU-COM welcomes new hire

            Please welcome Misty Hutchison as a new administrative associate in the CORE Research Office effective March 14. Hutchison can be reached at G030 or at 593.2380.

 

CALENDAR  

PCMH Town Hall Meeting

            If you seen the signs in some of the parking lots near Grosvenor Hall, you may be wondering what the PCMH Town Hall is. The answer? The Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Town Hall, which takes place today. This event is being held to provide information to local primary care practitioners about patient-centered medical homes as part of HB 198. The agenda includes national consultants from TransforMED, a panel of insurance company representatives, and a presentation regarding the application process for transforming practices to PCMHs. Area physicians and other health care providers will be attending.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) overview

            Debra Benton, university registrar, and Barb Nalazek, J.D., associate director of legal affairs, will present an overview of the FERPA Act that governs the release of and access to students’ education records. To register, contact Miriam Thomas, administrative associate in OU-COM’s Administrative and Financial Services unit, at thomasm1@ohio.edu.

31st ANNUAL 5K Medicine Run/Walk & Children’s Obstacle Course

            Sponsored by Sigma Sigma Phi, this annual event to promote a healthy lifestyle for residents of the Athens community and to raise funds for OU-COM’s Free Clinic, is accepting pre-registrations now through March 21. The entry fee is $20. Checks should be made out to OU-COM Medicine Run, and dropped off or sent to G-014.
