AOA OPTI on-site inspection scheduled for next week

OU-COM and CORE will host a team of distinguished guests on campus Wednesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 9. This is an extremely important visit by American Osteopathic Association inspectors who will be conducting an on-site visit in regard to the renewed accreditation for the CORE.

CORE Executive Director Harvey Schwartz asks all faculty, staff and students to keep work areas looking neat and to recognize how critical their visit is to both OU-COM and the CORE’s reputation and success. AOA inspectors will be meeting with a variety of OU-COM and CORE staff during the two day visit in person and via videoconference. Questions about the inspection can be made to Schwartz at his Columbus office at 614-544-1793, his Athens office at 597-3155, or via email at schwarth@ohio.edu.

NEW this year for graduation:  Watch it live online!

We hope you will join us at Memorial Auditorium for the college’s 32cd Commencement on Saturday, June 4. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

Can’t make it live? This year you can watch Dr. Leonard Calabrese deliver the keynote address and the 107 members of the class of 2011 take their physician oaths via live web broadcast.

Similar to the process that was used to announce the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation’s gift to the college, the ceremony can be viewed by anyone with Internet access and the appropriate plug-in software. We’re working on upgrading the service, so please stay tuned.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Campus screening for film based on caregiver play

Medical education, theater and filmmaking merged via an Ohio University communication class to deal with the sensitive issue of the pending death of a family member.

The feature-length production of “The Passageway,” by this year’s Media Arts and Studies 419 class, is based on the 2006 play “Confessions of a Reluctant Caregiver” by Merri Biechler, an assistant in the Office of Academic Affairs at OU-COM and an adjunct faculty member in the School of Theater. Biechler wrote the play when she was a student earning her Masters of Fine Arts in Playwriting. At the same time, she was also working at OU-COM as a graduate assistant in the Office of Academic Affairs and teaching in the School of Theater.

The film will be presented to the public for the first time on Sunday, June 5, at Templeton Blackburn Memorial Auditorium at 2 p.m.
