AOF honors OU-HCOM physicians, students

Several OU-HCOM alumni, staff and students received honors from the American Osteopathic Foundation at this year's Osteopathic Medical Conference and Exposition held in Orlando Oct. 30-Nov.1. They include:

  • Draion Burch, D.O. ('07), Outstanding Resident of the Year Award, obstetrics and gynocology
  • John Weippert, D.O. ('08), Outstanding Resident of the YearAward, internal
  • Terry Johnson, D.O. ('91), Outstanding Physician of the Year Award. Johnson is a CORE assistant dean, director of the family medicine residency program at Southern Ohio Medical Center, 89th District State Representative.
  • Sara Thorp, OMS IV, Welch Scholars Grant, given for outstanding academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, strong commitment toward osteopathic medicine
  • Marika Yoho, wife of Scott Yoho, OMS IV, Donna Jones Moritsugu Award, given to recipient who exemplifies the role of a professional's partner by providing immeasurable support of his or her mate, family, and the osteopathic profession, while being an individual in their own right

Sheila Bycofski, administrative assistant in the Office of Communication, is featured in the Ohio University Compass today as the non-bargaining Classified Employee of the Month. Sale profits will go toward purchasing new white coats for second-year students for their third- and fourth-year CORE site rotations. A great variety of items are available to choose from. Click here to view the shirts, sweats and other clothing available and to order and pay online.

 

To purchase, choose your items and type the quantity beside each desired size, click "submit" at the bottom, input your contact information, and pay with a credit or debit card. You will get a confirmation at the email address you provide.

Sigma Sigma Phi Giving Tree

The Sigma Sigma Phi Giving Tree is now looking for participants to help provide gifts to the children of Athens County. Each ornament on the tree lists the name of a child, his or her age and gift ideas for what that child wants or needs. Participants can choose an ornament and purchase a gift or gifts for that child.

           

The Giving Tree is located in the OU-HCOM Student Affairs Office (G018). All gifts should be wrapped, tagged and returned to the office by Monday, Dec. 13. For any questions, contact Nancy Joseph, OMS II

Call for abstracts for Ohio Osteopathic Symposium 

Abstracts are being accepting for the second annual Regional Osteopathic Poster Exhibition and Competition, sponsored by OU-HCOM, the CORE, and the OOA. Abstracts will be accepted from students, interns/residents, faculty, medical administrators and practicing physicians from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia and Pennsylvania for the competition, which will be held Saturday, April 21 at the Columbus Hilton at Easton Town Center as part of the annual Ohio Osteopathic Symposium.

 

The competition will feature three categories: clinical/biomedical research, case reports, and health policy/educational issues, the latter of which is restricted to faculty and administrators.

 

Students, interns and residents only are eligible for a $1,000 first prize and a $500 second prize in the clinical/biomedical research and case reports categories. Abstracts should be no longer than 250 words and are due by Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012.
