E-mail distribution lists available via Outlook
Faculty, staff and students who want to send college-wide emails can now do so through Microsoft Outlook by using college distribution lists. College lists include:
- OU-HCOM employees (faculty and staff)
- OU-HCOM Class of 2012
- OU-HCOM Class of 2013
- OU-HCOM Class of 2014

If you need assistance in finding or using these lists, please contact Cory Lewis, biomedical technical support supervisor.
The Ohio University Office of Information Technology is nearing its completion on the college data/email migration project, which will mean that the OU-HCOM email servers will be decommissioned at the end of this month, said Al Reed, director of medical informatics. As a result of this decommission, the college "Community Bulletin Board" email service will be discontinued at the end of November, so please use these lists for your college-related email communications.
Beth Maxon, director of human resources and administrative services, reminds faculty, staff and students that university email accounts are state property and subject to public records requests.
Please refer to Ohio University Policy 91.003, "Computer and Network Use," for more information. Personal use of Ohio University e-mail is also subject to Ohio University's Solicitation Policy 42.550 and OU-COM's Publications Policy 11.01. |

Medical Imaging Lab gets makeover
Renovations to the OU-HCOM Medical Imaging Lab on Grosvenor Hall's first floor are complete. Once known as the "histology lab," the facility has become a multipurpose medical education facility, said Audrone Biknevicius, Ph.D., associate professor and chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
In addition to providing a beautiful new venue for microscope-based study of microanatomy, the new network connections, camera-mounted instructor's microscope and numerous video screens provide a state-of-the-art virtual microscopy experience.
The innovative design of the room has greatly expanded its potential, Biknevicius said. Instructors envision Ground Rounds experiences for medical students and future graduate medical education training. The positioning of sinks and counter spaces along the side walls uncluttered the middle of the room. A ceiling-mounted camera provides a means for projecting intimate views of specimens or procedures to the entire class. Lab benches are angled toward the presenter's dais.

Funding supports Ecuador research facility
The Tropical Disease Institute's (TDI) Center for Infectious Disease Research in Ecuador received a three-year, 60,000 euro (about $80,000 at today's exchange rate) grant from the French Institute of Research for Development (IRD), announced Mario Grijalva, Ph.D., associate professor of microbiology and TDI director.
In addition to bench research funding, the award allows the center to host independently funded visiting researchers and provide supplemental support for conference organizations. Most importantly, Grijalva noted, the award begins a relationship with IRD that possibly could lead to additional funding for future equipment purchases for the center's new 90,000-square-foot research and training facility under construction in Quito, Ecuador.
