Meet AOA president Levine
Martin S. Levine, D.O., the 115th president of the AOA, will be on campus to talk to OU-HCOM students about the AOA and meet with faculty and staff on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at noon in Irvine 194.

Levine operates a family practice in Bayonne, N.J., and Jersey City, N.J. He serves as associate dean for educational development at the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City. He also is discipline chief of family medicine and associate professor of clinical family medicine at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine's New Jersey Clinical Campus based at Seton Hall University. More on Dr. Levine
Prescription drug
Jenny Belsky, OMS II, talks medication safety with an Alexander High School student.

OU-HCOM volunteers are visiting health classes at area middle schools and high schools to educate students about medication safety and prescription drug abuse. The efforts could help deter local students from becoming part of a dangerous trend. Southern Ohio counties have had the highest unintentional prescription medicine overdose death rates in the entire state, according to 2004-2008 Ohio Department of Health statistics. Read more

Discard, obtain office supplies at swap meet
Have some unwanted office supplies you don't need? Looking for a hole punch or some extra paper clips? A swap meet will be held Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Grosvenor 017. If you have items for the swap meet, bring them to Grosvenor 017 on Tuesday beginning at 10 a.m.
Grosvenor stairwell painting begins
Beginning today, the stairwell next to Grosvenor 128 and the connector to Grosvenor Hall West will be repainted. Work is expected to be completed on Wednesday, Nov. 30. Please do not use this stairwell during this time unless there is an emergency.

Winter Blast, Dec. 14, noon, Irvine Bricks
Besides sharing holiday food, fun and companionship, this year's Winter Blast aims to help the Diabetes Free Clinic. Faculty, staff and students are asked to bring non-perishable food items to this year's holiday gathering on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at noon on the Irvine Bricks. The food will be donated to the Diabetes Free Clinic, which provides uninsured patients with access to healthy foods. Click here to read about the initiative.
 
The Winter Blast menu features turkey, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, vegetable tray, rolls, beverages and potluck desserts. A dessert contest includes a People's Choice award for creativity. Activities include an Evil Elf Trivia contest, games and a euchre tournament.
 
RSVP to Mike Yeager in Grosvenor 220 or 740.593.9300 by Wednesday, Dec. 7. Cost is $5 in advance, $7 at the door, or $3 if you bring a dessert.

Sigma Sigma Phi Giving Tree
Sigma Sigma Phi is hoping you will help make the holidays brighter for children in our community.
 
Working with the Athens County Children Services' Giving Tree program, participants are being sought to help provide gifts to Athens County children. Each ornament on the tree lists the name of a child, his or her age and gift ideas for what that child wants or needs. Participants can choose an ornament and purchase a gift or gifts for that child.
           
The Giving Tree is located in the OU-HCOM Student Affairs Office (G018). All gifts should be wrapped, tagged and returned to the office by Monday, Dec. 13. For any questions, contact Nancy Joseph, OMS II.
