Meet Dean Kenneth Johnson, D.O.
Please join us in welcoming Dean Kenneth Johnson, D.O., at a "get-to-know-you" reception on Monday, Aug. 20, at 5:15 p.m. on the Irvine Bricks. Dr. Johnson will officially begin his duties as dean on that day, and hopes to meet faculty, staff and students at that time as well as during his first few weeks on campus.

Poster deadline for Research Day fast approaching
The deadline to submit project titles, abstracts and electronic versions of posters for production for the 11th Annual OU-HCOM Research Day is Tuesday, Sept. 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Irvine Bricks.
Faculty, staff and students who do not meet the deadline or fail to submit by that date will be responsible for making sure their posters are finished and for paying all poster production expenses.
Recipients of either OU-HCOM or RSAC funds during the past year are required to participate in Research Day. OU-HCOM students who want to participate in poster judging are reminded that judging will occur on the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 26.

Presentation focuses on veterans mental health needs
Todd Fredricks, D.O., assistant professor of family medicine, will present "Meeting the Mental Health Needs of Our Veterans and Our Military Families - Understanding the Basics," on Tuesday, Aug. 14, from noon to 1 p.m. in Grosvenor west 111.
Objectives of the presentation include:
- Simple techniques on identifying veterans and their families;
- Recognizing the seven Army Core values;
- Discussing behavioral health changes of returning veterans and their family members;
- Recognizing traumatic brain injury and assessment.

The presentation is also available via videoconference at the Chillicothe Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Tri-County Mental Health and Counseling Service sites. One hour of continuing education credits are available for physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors and social workers.
The presentation is presented by OU-HCOM, Area Health Education Center and the Consortium for Health Education in Appalachia Ohio.

Register now for Live Healthy Appalachian
Register now for the Second Annual Live Healthy Appalachian conference on Friday, Sept. 28. This year's conference features lectures by acclaimed authors and researchers James O. Prochaska, Ph.D., and Michael Roizen, M.D., in addition to a panel discussion that will include OU-HCOM's J.O. Watson Endowed Chair Frank Schwartz, M.D., professor of endocrinology, and Kathy Trace, M.A., B.S.N., R.N., director, Area Health Education Center and Community Health Programs.
This year's conference will be held on Friday, Sept. 28 from 1 to 5 p.m. in Ohio University's Walter Hall.
Continuing education accreditation is provided by OH-HCOM Area Health Education Center, CHEAO. Three and one-quarter hours for CE credit is offered for D.O., M.D, nursing, CHES (pending), social work, psychology, counseling, and dietatics (via nursing) professionals.

The event enables you to get rid of any unwanted office supplies, and to pick up any items your office may need. If you have items for the swap meet, bring them to Grosvenor 017 on Tuesday, Aug. 21 between 10 and 11:30 a.m.
