for John Kopchick, Ph.D.
 

OU-HCOM has announced it will name a newly endowed research chair to honor one of its most esteemed faculty members. The John J. Kopchick, Ph.D., Osteopathic Heritage Foundation Endowed Eminent Research Chair was announced at a Jan. 17 luncheon held to recognize the world-renowned endocrinologist and his contributions to the college, the university and the medical profession. 1804 Fund supports diabetes program development

Two OU-HCOM researchers are among a team that received a $15,000 award from the university's 1804 Fund to develop an undergraduate program in diabetes. Frank Schwartz, M.D., director, ARHI Diabetes Center and professor of endocrinology,  and Jay Shubrook, D.O. ('96), earned the award with College of Health Sciences and Professions faculty members Darlene E. Berryman, Ph.D., Jeffrey Bevan, Ph.D., R.D., L.D.,Cheryl Howe Ph.D., and David Holben, Ph.D.

The team plans to design a curriculum for an undergraduate certificate in diabetes education and management, Shubrook said. The 1804 Fund is designed to foster innovation and collaboration across disciplines and supports the university's core mission.

Assistant dean named academy president

David Tolentino, D.O. ('02), CORE assistant dean at St. John Medical Center, is the 2012 President of the Cleveland Academy of Osteopathic Medicine.

Giants or Patriots? Show your colors at Souper Bowl

Wear the colors of your favorite team at this year's OU-HCOM's Souper Bowl Lunch, Tuesday, Jan. 31, at noon on the Irvine Bricks. Cost is $5 at the door, unless you bring a pot of your favorite soup. Prizes will be awarded for the best chili, creamed soup, and stock with meat and/or veggies.

It's Student Expo time!

Registration for the Ohio University Student Research and Creative Activity Expo opens Wednesday, Feb. 1, and closes Sunday, March 18. Students must enroll online to participate in this year's event, which will be held 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 3, at the Convocation Center.

  

Participation is open to all undergraduate, graduate and medical students, as well as postdoctoral fellows, on the Athens and regional campuses. Posters, exhibits, performances, film screenings and other presentation formats are welcome.

 

The Student Expo is sponsored by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity and Dean of the Graduate College, Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, Office of the President, and the University Libraries.
