OU-COM anatomist Lawrence Witmer,
Ph.D., doubles as a high-profile paleontologist—and media
darling

National Geographic crew.
Lawrence Witmer, Ph.D., Chang Ying-Chien endowed professor
of paleontology and professor of anatomy, attracted film
crews from the National Geographic Channel, the History
Channel, the Discovery Channel and the Japanese public
broadcast network NHK this year.
The National Geographic Channel interviewed Witmer for their
series, “Prehistoric Predators,” and chronicled his
paleontological research, which uses CT scans performed at
O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, for a documentary, “Bizarre
Dinosaurs.”
Meanwhile, the History Channel has featured Witmer in two
new programs: “Prehistoric Monsters Revealed,” a
documentary, and “Jurassic Fight Club,” a new series; and
the Discovery Channel interviewed Witmer for a show about
terror birds and saber-toothed cats.
