All OU-COM students who will successfully complete the first year of medical education by the end of the spring quarter are invited to apply for a Research and Scholarly Advancement Fellowship (RSAF). This ten-week summer program provides selected osteopathic medical students with an introduction to scholarly work under the guidance of a member of the COM faculty.

The core of the program is the research project that each student pursues. Projects may encompass anything from contributing to an ongoing faculty research project in the laboratory or clinic, to developing a review of a specific body of literature, to an original research project designed by the student. In addition to performing research, students are required to attend seminars on various research-related topics, write a research paper, and present a poster of their project at the OU-COM Research Day held during each fall quarter.
