Current projects, research and grants:
Dr. Mann's research is in two areas. The first area is in
self-monitoring (e.g., metacognition, calibration of confidence, and
self-efficacy). Past and present projects in this area include:
-- Perceived expertise, confidence, and
accuracy in multiple-alternative judgments
-- Self-efficacy in the application of a therapeutic psychomotor skill
-- Calibration of confidence in palpatory skills (the
Haptic Back
research project)
The second, recently developed research area concerns empathy in the
physician-patient relationship. A grant-supported project in 2006
produced three video scenarios illustrating different levels of
physician empathy. Three empathy papers are in various stages of
preparation or revision.
Dr. Mann's administrative projects for the Dean's office include
facilitation of OU-HCOM's strategic planning efforts, accreditation, and
representing the College on OU committees such as the Vision Ohio
Steering Committee.
