· Gain an understanding of the special needs of
adults who have neurological and musculoskeletal disorders.
· Increase knowledge of diagnosed developmental
disabilities.

Identify secondary
conditions that affect this population.
· Obtain knowledge of residential service
offered to adults in the community with developmental
disabilities.
Objectives/Activities
By participating in this CCE
assignment, medical students will:
· Observe residents and recognize adaptations or
devices they use while performing activities of daily living
(ADL’s).
· Observe assistance provided by staff members
to complete ADL’s.
· Review 4 of the major developmental
disabilities effecting adults.
· List 5 secondary conditions, and their
symptoms, associated with residents in this facility.
· List approaches taken to manage secondary
conditions, including the physicians' role in the management
process.
Describe community resources available to
adults with developmental disabilities.
Equipment Needed for Activity
None
Dress
Professional casual attire, no shorts
or sandals, lab jacket with identification badge.
Responsibilities of the Medical
Student
· While on agency property, medical students
will conform to all applicable policies and procedures of
the agency.
· Medical students will exercise
confidentiality with regard to all patient and/or staff
information gained during the clinical experience.

hand side of West Union Street immediately after Hospital
Drive, across from the Athens County Fair Grounds.
