Specific CCE Goals:

  • Interview at least one patient receiving physical therapy.
  • List criteria for referral to a physical therapist.
  • Describe the general goals of a physical therapist, and the assessment tools used to determine a patient's function and individual goals.
  • Describe the effects physical therapy has on functional abilities and quality of life.
  • Describe the relationship between the physician, therapist and patient.
     

Objectives/Activities:
By participating in this assignment, medical students will be able to:
     Describe criteria for referring a patient to physical therapy.                     
     Describe the general goals of a physical therapist.
     Become familiar with assessment tools used to determine a patient's function and individual goals.           
     Interview patients receiving physical therapy and describe the effects physical therapy has had on functional abilities and quality of life.                               
     Describe the relationship between the physician, therapist and patient.
                                                                                                

Equipment Needed for Activity:
None

Dress:
Fairfield Medical Center has a strict dress code.  Be advised they do not allow bare legs or open-toed shoes, visible tattoos must be covered by band aids, only two earrings may be worn in each ear and no other piercing should be visible.  White lab jacket and identification badge must be worn with professional casual clothes, no blue jeans or tennis shoes.

Directions:

Take US-33 W toward COLUMBUS.  Stay STRAIGHT to go onto US-33 LANCASTER BUSINESS ROUTE.  Go through one light and look for the sign for Wilson Lane.   Turn right onto Wilson Lane and then take the next left onto Sugar Grove Road.  Follow Sugar Grove Road for several miles and up the hill until it intersects with Main St in Lancaster.  Turn left onto Main St. and go about 2 blocks; the Out-Patient Physical Medicine unit is located on the right in the shopping center at a right-angle to the Kroger store.

 

Responsibilities of the Medical Student:

·    While on agency property, medical students will conform to all applicable policies and procedures of the agency.

·    Medical students will exercise confidentiality with regard to all patient and/staff information gained during the clinical experience.
