This CCE is designed to be attended by 2 students to allow you to share the commute; if you are interested in carpooling, please contact the CCE Office for their names.

As always, please call the contact person if you will be even a few minutes late.

Specific CCE Goals:

  • Interview at least one patient receiving respiratory therapy.
  • List criteria for referral to respiratory services.
  • Describe the general goals of a respiratory therapist, and the assessment tools used to determine a patient's pulmonary function and individual goals.
  • Describe the effects respiratory therapy has on functional abilities and quality of life.
  • Describe the relationship between the physician, therapist and patient.
     

Objectives/Activities:
By participating in this assignment, medical students will be able to:
     Describe criteria for referring a patient to respiratory therapy.                     
     Describe the general goals of a respiratory therapist.
     Become familiar with assessment tools used to determine a patient's pulmonary function and individual goals.           
     Interview patients receiving respiratory therapy and describe the effects respiratory therapy has had on functional abilities and quality of life.                               
     Describe the relationship between the physician, therapist and patient.
                                                                                                

Equipment Needed for Activity:
None

Dress:
Fairfield Medical Center has a strict dress code.  Be advised they do not allow bare legs or open-toed shoes, visible tattoos must be covered by band aids, only two earrings may be worn in each ear and no other piercing should be visible.  White lab jacket and identification badge must be worn with professional casual clothes, no blue jeans or tennis shoes.

Directions:

Merge onto US-33 W via EXIT 16A on the LEFT toward COLUMBUS / STATE ST.

 

Stay STRAIGHT to go onto US-33-BR / LOGAN LANCASTER RD SE / CR-33A W / LANCASTER BUSINESS ROUTE.

 

Stay STRAIGHT to go onto US-33-BR / LOGAN LANCASTER RD SE / CR-33A W / LANCASTER BUSINESS ROUTE. Continue to follow US-33-BR / LANCASTER BUSINESS ROUTE. Go through one light and look for the sign for Wilson Lane.

Turn right onto Wilson Lane and then take the next left onto Sugar Grove Road.  Follow Sugar Grove Road for several miles and up the hill until it becomes Ewing Street.  Go straight on Ewing Street until you reach the hospital - it will be on your left.

Responsibilities of the Medical Student:

·    While on agency property, medical students will conform to all applicable policies and procedures of the agency.

·    Medical students will exercise confidentiality with regard to all patient and/staff information gained during the clinical experience.
