Hocking Valley Community Hospital

Hocking Valley Community Hospital (HVCH) is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital, with a 30-bed Skilled Nursing Facility, and a 10-bed Geriatric Psychiatric unit, serving Hocking County, Ohio and surrounding counties in the Hocking Hills region. A Joint Commission accredited hospital, HVCH provides broad-based medical care with a staff of over sixty physicians, including specialists in family practice, cardiovascular services, internal medicine, obstetrics and occupational medicine.

Special Notes:
Please call the contact person if you will be even a few minutes late.  Review the attached PowerPoint, then download and print the checklist and take it with you to your CCE. There are likely to be several of your classmates traveling to a CCE in Logan on the same day at the same time; if you are interested in carpooling, please contact the CCE office.

Instructors:

Specific CCE Goals:
Gain knowledge of the diagnostic and treatment options available to patients in a hospital geriatric psychiatric unit.

Objectives/Activities:
Observe senior citizens who are experiencing acute psychiatric disorders such as depression, mood disorders, anxiety, disorientation or difficulty coping with transitions and losses.

Assist with the development of individual and multi-disciplinary treatment plans for patients that include a psychiatric psychopharmacologic assessment, individual and group psychotherapy and rehabilitation services.

Work with the patient, their family, outside healthcare and assisted living/nursing home facilities to coordinate the best possible inpatient and after-care treatment.

None

Dress:
White lab jacket and identification badge.  Please wear professional casual clothes, no blue jeans or tennis shoes.   

Responsibilities of the Medical Student

·    While on agency property, medical students will conform to all applicable policies and procedures of the agency.

·    Medical students will exercise confidentiality with regard to all patient and/staff information gained during the clinical experience.

Directions:
Merge onto US-33 W via the ramp to Columbus/State St
Take the OH-664 exit toward Logan/Bremen
Turn right at OH-664 and continue through 3 traffic lights until you reach the hospital (on your left).
