Your presentation is expected to last one hour. Please
arrive at HVCRC at 1:30 PM - you will tour the facility
until 2:00 PM and present from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.

your presentation.
Objectives for each presentation may be found by following
this link.
Please call Ms. Robinson 2 weeks before your
presentation to confirm
your assigned topic and discuss
plans for an age-appropriate presentation.
When reporting to the agency,
please ask for Ms. Robinson at the front desk. Take
only necessary items and identification (avoid carrying a
purse). Materials taken into the facility may be searched. You may not hand
out any materials with paper clips, staples or ink pens. Do
not allow the youths to use your ink pen. You are permitted
to hand out pencils. Consider the literacy level that may
apply to some youth when you are choosing your educational
materials.
If you cannot keep your appointment or if you
arrive even a few minutes late, please call the agency
contact person to explain.

Specific CCE Goals
·
Gain experience in preventive medicine,
patient teaching and community education by preparing and
teaching relevant health topics to adolescent inmates at a
correctional facility.
· Develop interpersonal communication skills
with adolescent males of diverse social and cultural
backgrounds.
· Practice social responsibility by providing
health information to juveniles in a rehabilitation program.
Objectives/Activities
By participating in this CCE
assignment, the medical student will:
· Observe a typical juvenile residential center.
· Determine health concerns of adolescent males
residing in a juvenile residential center.
· Develop and instruct a 60-minute class
suitable for adolescent males in a juvenile residential
center. Topics will be assigned by the CCE Program
Manager. Use age-appropriate information to effectively
convey the information. Interactive presentations which
engage the youth in dialogue are recommended.

Depending on your
assigned topic, resources may be obtained from the Area
Health Education Center in 027 Grosvenor, from other
agencies such as the American Cancer Society, the Athens
City-County Health Departments, and from CCE Program
Director
Sarah McGrew
in 333 Grosvenor.

Identification badge must be worn and a
white lab jacket over professional casual clothes.
Responsibilities of the Medical
Student
· While on agency property, medical students
will conform to all applicable policies and procedures of
the agency.
· Medical students will exercise confidentiality
with regard to all client and/or staff information gained
during the clinical experience.
Directions
Take Route 33 West to Nelsonville.
Turn left on Route 278, Lake Hope Drive at the last red
light in Nelsonville, by the Sunoco gas station. Cross the
railroad tracks and bridge. There is a dark brown building
on the left. Take the first road to the left in the curve,
as the road turns right. This is a paved driveway. There
is a small sign by the road entrance and a bus shelter. Go
straight back the driveway, pass the blue and gray building
on the left. Go to the red brick building. Enter in the
front doors of the brick building.
