Special Notes:
O’Bleness is within walking distance of OU-COM,
just across Shafer St. If you drive, use the two lots
available for employee parking on the South Shafer side;
look for the green “Employee Parking” sign.
Plan to arrive at 9:00 AM; look for
signs in the lobby. Classes are held in the basement .
Hours:
Prenatal classes at O'Bleness are held every other month on
Saturday from 9 AM - 1 PM.

Specific CCE Goals:
Identify new
developments in maternity care, including an introduction to
the services at O’Bleness.
Discuss patient expectations before and after birth.
Describe newborn care.
Objectives/Activities:
By participating in this assignment, medical students will be able to:
Be introduced to facilities, hospital
procedures and tour the Birth Center.
Describe family-oriented prenatal care.
Read about the baby's development from conception to birth,
including
characteristics of the newborn.
List the changes
in mother, including the discomforts of and danger signs
during pregnancy.
Review
recommended lifestyle changes, including nutrition, comfort
measures and exercise.
Describe signs of impending labor; true versus false labor;
and the stages of
labor.
Discuss postnatal care, including feeding and care of
the newborn at home.
Equipment Needed for Activity:
None
Dress:
White lab jacket and identification
badge. Please wear professional casual clothes, no blue
jeans or tennis shoes.
Responsibilities of the Medical
Student:
· While on agency property, medical students
will conform to all applicable policies and procedures of
the agency.
· Medical students will exercise confidentiality
with regard to all patient and/staff information gained
during the clinical experience.
