Ohio University Hearing, Speech and Language Clinic
is part of the clinical training arm of the School of Hearing,
Speech and Language Sciences. Its dual functions are to provide
education and training for undergraduate and graduate students
enrolled in the clinical training program; and to provide
preventative, diagnostic and treatment services to persons with
language, speech, voice, swallowing, hearing, and or/ balance
problems.

Objectives/Activities:
By participating in this assignment, medical students
will be able to:
Describe criteria for referring a patient to speech
and hearing services
Describe the general goals of a speech
therapist and/or audiologist.
Assist
with patient assessment under guided observation.
Describe the
relationship between the physician, speech therapist and/or
audiologist, and patient
Equipment Needed for Activity:
otoscope, penlight
and tongue depressor
Dress:
ID badge. Please
wear professional casual clothes, no blue jeans or tennis shoes.
Responsibilities of the medical student:
While on agency property, medical students will
conform to all applicable policies and procedures of the agency.
Medical students will exercise confidentiality with
regard to all patient and/staff information gained during the
clinical experience.
Directions: Grover Center is across the street from Grosvenor Hall.
Therapy Associates is on the first floor.
