If you will be unable to attend the CCE, 48 working hours
advance notice must be given to the
CCE Office to
reschedule the experience.

Specific CCE Goals
(will vary depending on whether the student attends a home
visit or a clinic experience):
Gain experience in
preventive medicine, patient teaching, and community health
education by participating in health department activities.
Gather knowledge of the community/public
health services
available to help individuals and families
cope with specific health problems in a rural area.
To understand the purpose and practice of
home health care.
To recognize the services available to
physicians caring for patients in the home setting.
Objectives/Activities
(will vary depending on whether the student attends a home
visit or a clinic experience) By participating in this CCE
assignment, medical students may:
· Clinic and Home Health:
Interview patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural
backgrounds.
· Clinic and Home Health:
Provide health teaching to patients from diverse
socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
· Clinic: Assist with
preparing clients for and providing immunizations.
· Clinic: Assist staff with
obtaining laboratory specimens.
· Home Health: Observe the
use of the problem-oriented medical record in the home care
setting.
· Home Health: Discuss with
preceptor the current patient’s problems and interventions
designed to meet those needs.
· Home Health: Observe the care
administered by the home health nurse in the home
environment and/or assist with basic patient physical
assessment procedures such as vital signs, heart and lung
auscultation.
· Clinic and Home Health:
Discuss with preceptor the need for follow-up services and
referrals.
· Home Health: Complete the
attached
caregiver assessment
and the
environmental assessment designed to identify services
available to homebound persons.

Activity: Stethoscope
Dress:
White lab jacket and
identification badge. Please wear professional casual
clothes, no blue jeans or tennis shoes.
Transportation:
Is required
Responsibilities of
the Medical Student:
· While on agency property,
medical students will conform to all applicable policies and
procedures of the agency.
· Medical students will exercise
confidentiality with regard to all patient and/or staff
information gained during the clinical experiences.
Directions
Take 50/32 West toward Chillicothe.
After you pass the Albany exits and the Ohio University
Airport, SR 50 separates from 32. Take 50 W toward
McArthur. When you arrive in McArthur, turn right at
the first stop light on SR 93. The Health Department
is located one mile up 93 on the left.
