Here’s what some students who flourished in the CPC curriculum said.

“The CPC offers a good balance, which I found very suitable for my maturing learning style. I still learn very effectively in the confines of a disciplined lecture environment. However, I also appreciate the power of learning from my peers in a small group environment. The CBL (case-based learning) groups not only provide a forum for developing clinical problem solving strategies but also for exploring the basic sciences.”
In either curriculum that you choose, you will have to do more research … and teaching each other than most of us [were] exposed to in our undergraduate careers.
“As a person who had a non-science major in college, I needed the extra direction that the lectures provided. With the CPC, things were very structured for me, and this was how I learned best.”

“I prefer a structured learning environment. The CPC track met those needs through classroom lectures and facilitated group discussions.”

“I learn well with a mixture of lectures and independent study. It helps me to have some expert opinions on subjects and still have enough time to read on topics on your own.”

“I was not a good multiple choice test taker before I came here. My undergraduate exams were primarily essay format. I feel like I have greatly improved in this area and will be better prepared for future boards and certification exams from taking the long 4-hour multiple-choice tests. [The] reason for our success on boards was our work ethic and ability to learn independently.”

“Organization and logic prevail in the CPC.”

“Objectives guided my learning depth and subject content.”

“The most important concepts [generally] were explained in detail in lecture.”
“I felt part of a whole.”

“Class [attendance] was optional . . . so I had the freedom to choose where my time learning could be best spent (class or books).”

“The testing format really prepared me for the setting and question format of the COMLEX [board] exam.”

“[I like] to study alone.  CPC allowed me to do that, but with some direction from lectures, labs, etc.”

“CBL forces us to talk and think like doctors.  When done with a little effort and patience, CBL is a great learning tool.”

The CPC curriculum was a good choice for me because I . . .

“[am a] visual learner.”

“enjoy reading on my own.”

“need some guidance and direction.”

“can't always learn just from hearing others.”

“need to do it on my own to learn.”

“do better with auditory learning.”
