VIP Clinic
The TB program was started over 20 years ago
in 1985. This program provides preventive
treatment and education for currently
enrolled Ohio University students who have
been infected with tuberculosis. In order to
be treated by our clinic students must have
both a significantly positive skin test and
a chest x-ray that indicates they are
eligible for treatment. The course of
treatment takes 6-9 months and aids in
eradicating the TB infection before it can
develop into active disease.
The main goal of the program is to prevent
active cases of TB on the OU campus and in
Athens County. Statistics show that since
the inception of this program no student who
was treated for TB infection converted to
active TB disease. The TB prevention program
is known as the VIP clinic. Clinics are held
at the Student Health Center on the Ohio
University campus. There is no charge for
appointments and a minimal charge for the
medication and lab tests. The Athens county
Tuberculosis Board with TB levy tax dollars
provides funding for this clinic. |
