Is your file complete?

Medical school applicants live this scenario everydayYou remember filling out a bunch of application forms and you're pretty sure you remembered to ask for all the appropriate letters of recommendation, but each school asks for something a little different!  How do you know if you've completed all the application steps for OU-COM?  It's easy.  Just refer to our seven step outline to see if your file is complete.

Step 1Submit primary application to AACOMAS.  This process includes forwarding MCAT scores and transcripts to AACOMAS in addition to filling out the AACOMAS application.  If you have questions about the status of your primary application, you will need to contact AACOMAS directly.  OU-COM's AACOMAS application deadline is January 2, 2003.

Step 2Complete the OU-COM Secondary Application.  This application will be mailed to you if you meet our initial selection criteria.  The secondary application is composed of the following pieces:
                               Application Information (Introduction and instructions)
                               Secondary Application Form ($30 fee)
Confidential Evaluation (use of our form not required)
Contract of Admission (non-Ohio residents only)
Letter of Recommendation from a D.O. strongly encouraged

Step 3Completing your file.  Once all parts of the secondary application are returned to our office, your file will be considered complete and will be eligible for committee review.  The committee will only review files that are complete (refer to pieces in Step 2).  If you have questions about the status of any part of your secondary application, please contact the Admissions Office via email or by telephone 1.800.345.1560.  If contacting us by email, please include your first and last name or your social security number in the request so that we can locate your file.

Step 4Evaluation of complete files.  The admissions committee will review all complete files in an effort to determine interview candidates.  Each file is evaluated individually and is reviewed with the utmost care.  Due to the careful nature in which files are reviewed, immediate answers with regard to status are not always available at this stage.

Step 5The interview. Candidates selected for an interview will be notified via regular mail.  Interview days are select Tuesdays and Wednesdays between the months of October and April.  The interview day lasts from 9:45 am until 3:30 pm and contains, a college overview, tour of facilities, lunch with current medical students and three one half hour individual interviews with OU-COM biomedical science and clinical faculty members.  OU-COM administrators may also serve on the interview teams as well.  Admission decisions are made on the candidates the day of the interview.  All applicants will be notified by regular mail within seven days of their interview regarding their status.

Step 6Admissions status.  There are three status decisions that could be rendered on your behalf.  The first is accept.  If you are accepted, you will be asked to submit a $100 initial deposit and another $500 deposit by June 15 in order to secure your spot in the entering class.  The second status is alternate.  If you are selected as an alternate, you still have a chance at being accepted.  The committee will review your file in April to determine your position on the alternate list.  College policy prohibits us from revealing your ranking on the list.  Generally, students on the alternate list do not begin to hear of any change in their status until June.  In past years, students have been selected from the alternate list even through the first week in September.  The third decision is reject.  Although we don't wish this status for any of our applicants, we are available to counsel students on what they might want to do in order to strengthen any future applications.

Step 7Matriculation.  Orientation and classes for MS I's begin in early September.  Be watching your mail for important information regarding immunizations, reading lists and orientation information.
