5:30 am  So this is what sleeping in feels like!  Just kidding.  I had to retire my running shoes yesterday because there is nothing left to them.  I’m waiting for my new pair, so today is a gym day.  Since the gym opens later, I catch a few extra winks…but still leave enough time for coffee!

5:45 am  Head to the gym

7:30 am  Home, shower, breakfast, and email.

9:00 am  I just got my computer back from being repaired, so I mess around with it a little bit and realize that I’m completely clueless.  Time to resort to special measures.  I go to school and get help from my buddies in the Tech shop, who have saved me more times than I can count.

10:00 am  My computer still has issues, so I leave it with them and will check back later.  Now, I should get at least a little studying done.  I go to the LRC and review Board material for a couple of hours.

12:00 pm  It is Career Medical Specialties Week, and we have speakers on different specialties everyday.  Today’s speaker canceled at the last minute, which also means that lunch was canceled.  Bummer!  I go over to Boyd to wait in line for some lunch.  I eat lunch with some friends and my plan is to go study for the OMM quiz.  I get stuck talking-no surprise.  I don’t know how I waste so much time, but I’m sure good at it!

1:00 pm  OMM Lab.  We start with a quiz over last week’s material and get to work.  Today we’re working on the upper extremities.  I catch a little nap while my partner treats me.  It is definitely one of the perks of OMM in the afternoon.

3:00 pm  Anatomy Lab.  After a really long break from being in the lab, we are back.  The enthusiasm is overwhelming!…not really.  It is hard to get back into it after such a long hiatus.  We are doing our final portion of anatomy, the pelvis and perineum-and that’s right, today we dissected the penis.  I’ll just leave it at that.

5:00 pm  Anatomy is out!  Only two more days of lab FOREVER!  I go home to eat, walk the dog, check email again, and clean up a little.  I read a little more board review stuff, and get ready for my “Med Student Cycling Class”.

6:45 pm  I meet my classmates at Wellworks for our very own cycling class.  It is fun to relieve a little stress  together; the only downfall is the time-right in the middle of the evening.

8:00 pm I spend the rest of the evening preparing for CBL.  We have two more cases this week-one is testicular cancer, and the other is erectile dysfunction.  They aren’t difficult conceptually, but it seems to take me a long time to prepare.  I am the presenter for the ED case, so I like to make sure I know what is up.

9:00 pm  Chat with my hubby.

9:30 pm  Back to CBL prep

11:00 pm  I quickly work on my objectives for the week.  I’m hoping to go to Columbus tomorrow night to see my hubby, but it is dependent on my finishing these tonight, and I do!

12:00 am  Let the dog out and go to bed!

Thursday April 24, 2003

5:30 am  Still waiting for my new kicks, so it is another gym day.

7:00 am  Shower, breakfast, get ready for class.

8:00 am  CBL.  We cover our learning issues for the cases and discuss the pathophysiology of the diseases.  The group goes fine, but it is easy to see that we are all tired of the “same old thing” and ready to get out on our rotations.

10:00 am  I head home to clean, do laundry, and pack for Columbus.  Then I head back over to school to hear the CMSW speaker.

12:00 pm  The speaker is a plastic surgeon, and a graduate of OUCOM.  It is really cool to see all that he has been through over the years.  By the time he is done, he will have gone through 9 years of residency-impressive, but definitely not a field for me!

1:00 pm  Lecture by Dr Benseler on Pelvic Imaging.  Dr Benseler is one of the local radiologists, and BY FAR one of the students’ favorites teachers.  He teaches in such a way that I never take notes, but I hardly ever forget anything he says.  Why can’t they all be like that?  Even though my CORE site is in Columbus, I’m trying to see if I can come do a radiology rotation with him in Athens-he is that great.

2:00 pm  Lecture by Dr Howell on the Physiology of Sex.  Wow, there is more to it than I thought!  This was kind of a fun lecture, because he threw in some pictures of research that they have been doing on the topic.  They actually got volunteers to have an MRI taken of them “in the act”.  Dr Howell kept it light-hearted, but made sure to get the info in.

3:00 pm  Stop by my house to pick up the dog and grab my stuff.

3:30 pm  Off to Columbus to see my man.

5:10 pm  I arrive in Columbus and write this very thing that  you are reading, and I wait for Erik to get home.  Yes, I’m supposed to have class tomorrow, but only one.  We can drop one S&I quiz per block-either a low grade, or one time that you don’t attend.  I usually go, but sometimes it is a trade-off, and this time Erik won out over class.

5:45 pm  I get back to work on my board review.  I absolutely cannot wait for Boards to be over!  Basically, outside of dinner and a little quality time with my hubby, that sums up my night.

12:00 am  Time for bed!
