Each spring 50 to 60 second year medical students (MS II) volunteer to be part of the Office of Admission's COMrade program.  This program links MS II's to new first year medical students (MS I) by curricular tracks, geographic areas, family or other interests.  The MS II's contact their COMrade/s over the summer in an effort to help ease their transition to medical school.  Most communication is done via email or by telephone and it isn't until the beginning of September that they meet face to face.  At the start of the fall quarter, a luncheon is provided for all MS I and II COMrades.  At the end of the luncheon, MS I's have an opportunity to select a faculty/staff mentor in addition to having a COMrade.
