The blazing foliage that envelops Athens in the fall has now given way to a soft blanket of snow.  Fall quarter is over for all Ohio University students except for those here at OU-COM.  Our MS I and II's are finishing up their exams this week and are looking forward to a much deserved break.

Although the quarter is slowly winding down, there is still much activity here at OU-COM.  On November 10, Dr. Darryl Beehler, the current president of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) paid our school a visit.  Dr. Beehler spent the day with our students, faculty and staff touring our
facilities and promoting the AOA's "Year of the Mentor" focus. You can listen to Dr. Beehler's inspiring message here.

Policy Puzzle is a series of noon-time seminars that help keep our students abreast of larger social and legal issues affecting medicine today.  Topics such as Medicare: Issues and Practices and Health Policy and Politics are two of the issues that have been addressed this quarter.

OU-COM students have the opportunity to help people both in Appalachia and abroad.  Each year around Thanksgiving, a team of students along with Dr. Dan Marazon travel to Kenya.  This three to four week experience gives our students a chance to have an immediate impact on the lives of others. Read more about their endeavors here.

New from the AOA - In an effort to help educate the public about osteopathic medicine, the AOA will launch a consumer-focused Web site on osteopathic medicine in January. This new site will feature a news feed with the latest health information; quick polls to test knowledge of health care issues; information on specific injuries or illnesses incorporating the osteopathic philosophy of care; and e-mail alerts to those who sign up to receive regular information on osteopathic medicine. Designed to educate more people about osteopathic medicine, the AOA encourages you to visit this new Web site at www.osteopathic.org.

As we begin to officially wrap up the fall quarter and begin to look eagerly toward the winter quarter, the Office of Admissions would like to extend best wishes for a happy and safe holiday season.
