7:00- Shower & Breakfast

8:00- Respiratory Block Overview- we just had our Cardiovascular Block exam on Monday so this morning is almost relaxing because there isn’t as much stress on studying this week…. which is really good because I needed a break after last week!

9:00- Immunology Lecture- we had a lot of immunology during our Blood and Immunology Block in the fall. Today’s lecture is more focused on allergies and different types of hypersensitivities. I always like it when the blocks overlap because it is a great time to review the information you knew so well last fall- and it is amazing how quickly you will forget it!

10:00- Virology Lecture- when you think of respiratory infections most people think it can either be of two origins- bacterial or viral. Today we talked about the common types of viral infections that can cause colds and nasal congestion.

11:00- We got out of class early today! Normally, we have class until noon on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays but today they only scheduled three lectures which was really nice. I basically used the time to go home and eat lunch and begin my CBL cases. This week we have two cases- one of which is an allergic rhinitis case and the other one is a broken nose with an accompanying nosebleed. It is always interesting to research your first cases because at that point you are just beginning the block so you have to look up all the definitions, differential diagnosis, and lab tests. At the end of the block, you have studied so much that you find yourself having to look up a lot less information.

1:00- Aerobics

2:00- Massage at WellWorks. On campus, we have a several masuists who give really good and somewhat cheap massages. My boyfriend had bought me a gift certificate for Christmas and I had saved it until after my Cardiovascular Exam was over to use it. The massage was so relaxing and just what I needed.

3:30- Immunology Problem Set- I worked on our homework for Friday. We have two problem sets due on Friday and they are both time consuming so I decided to try to get one done today.

5:00- Dinner with my roommates. We decided to go to Bob Evans to celebrate being done with our exams.

7:00- “Namely Muscles” The medical school sponsored a play tonight in which one lady did poetry, dancing, and singing all related to anatomy. The performance was wonderful and it also reviewed a lot of anatomy that we had not studied for a few months. It was funny to see all the medical students there though because it was truly a performance that only medical students would enjoy!

9:00- The Bachlorette. I only watch two hours of television a week and this is one of them. It has become an honored tradition to watch the Bachlorette with my roommates every Wednesday night.

10:30- Reading and Bed… it was a good way to end a relaxing day! I wanted to include this journal entry to show you that although medical school is very stressful that there is time to relax and have fun (especially after big exams.) You just have to find a balance between work and fun.

* FYI: My boyfriend, Ben, who you might of read about in some of my previous entries proposed to me this Valentine’s Day weekend. I am very excited but I am already having a hard time concentrating enough to study.
