AOA President Visits OU-COM

Biography

     Darryl A. Beehler, D.O., of Detroit Lakes, Minn., became president of the   American Osteopathic Association (AOA) during its annual business meeting July 15 - 20, 2003 in Chicago. Dr. Beehler will devote his year as president to honoring the osteopathic family’s mentors throughout the country and emphasizing the importance of D.O.s mentoring future osteopathic physicians.

     A board-certified osteopathic emergency and family physician, Dr. Beehler currently practices emergency medicine at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, Minnesota.

     Dr. Beehler has been an AOA member since 1975. He has served as a member of its board of trustees since 1992, and a delegate to its House since 1978. He has chaired the AOA departments of education, business affairs, government affairs and public affairs, professional affairs.

     In his home state, Dr. Beehler served the Minnesota Osteopathic Medical Society in capacities such as president, board member; and American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) Charter member. Additionally, Dr. Beehler has served as a board of trustee member of the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association. He has also acted as a state delegate to the ACOFP for more than 20 years.

     Dr. Beehler earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Kirksville, Mo. He completed his postgraduate training at Carson City Hospital in Carson City, Mich. He is a fellow of both the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians.

     Dr. Beehler resides in Detroit Lakes with his wife, Mary and three of their four children, Jay, Amanda and Elise. Their oldest daughter Jessica lives with her husband, Jon, in Mesa, Arizona.
