Alyssa's January Diary Wednesday, January 14, 2004
The temperature was 25 degrees this morning, so it was especially hard to pull myself out of bed. I brewed some coffee and chugged 2 cups before heading off to class. 8:10 – 12:00 pm We had a Dr. Klabunde (physiologist) lecture marathon today. Since we are in our second week of the Cardiovascular Block, Dr. Klabunde went over many important concepts over the 4 hour session. He discussed Hemodynamics, Cardiac function, and Valvular Diseases. All 3 lectures were interesting, but the marathon session was definitely not conducive to information retention. I knew I’d have a lot of reading to do that night to catch up! 12:15—1:30 pm Because of the long morning lectures, a few colleagues and I decided to treat ourselves with lunch at Lui Lui’s, a Californian-New Asian restaurant. It was nice to forget about classes and studying for an hour. 1:45—3:00pm I went through this morning’s lectures and read up on some esoteric concepts. 3:00—3:45 Nap time. 4:00—5:20pm I drove to the Learning Resources Center (aka LRC, med students’ library) to work on my Hemodynamics problem set. 5:30—6:30 A few colleagues and I met with some health professionals for a health screening training session. We are performing blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes screens at Kilvert (a small town outside of Athens) in honor of Martin Luther King Day. It’s amazing how a one hour training session qualifies one to screen the general public for such troublesome health disorders. The training session was and interactive. I can’t wait use my newly learned skills! 7:00—8:30 I ate dinner while finishing up my Hemodynamics problem set. 8:45—9:30 Shower/relaxing/email time. 9:30—12:00 More studying. I spent the majority of my evening time preparing for CBL. Our case for this week dealt with murmurs. 12:00—12:30am I spent some time talking on the phone with my fiancé and went to bed shortly thereafter.
