Elizabeth Patterson Typical Day Year 1 Medical Student Classes start 8am. Mon – Fri we have 2-4 hours of vigorous lecture, trying to take detailed notes, pay close attention, and understand concepts. If there is only 2 hours of lecture then the other 2 hours are lab. The lab is more hands on learning at your own pace On Mon, Wed, Fri, we are done with classes and I go home and eat and relax for an hour. Then I look over and memorize my class notes from that day. I also look at and get an understanding of the class objectives. It is now 4:30 and I do some exercising and eat dinner. Then I prepare for the next day of classes by skimming assigned readings, and working on case studies. On Tues, Thurs, we have lecture and labs 1-5 then I go home and memorize and look over my notes from that day, and usually do not have time to do assigned readings but just get a sense of what will be covered in lecture the next day by skimming the class preparation guide. I try to take study breaks and have exercise and relaxation time or else I go insane!
