Alyssa Giang Tuesday September 23, 2003 6:15 am I usually wake up before 6 am, but I hit the snooze bar a couple of times. I made my coffee and jumped into the shower while coffee was brewing. I had my usual 2 cups of coffee and watched the morning news while getting ready for classes. 7:20 am I started my walk to OU-COM from the Courtyard. This is my only mean of exercise so I take full advantage of the brisk walk. It was a beautiful, cool, crisp morning so I didn’t really mind the hike. 8:00 am Dr. Johnson gave a lecture on nucleic acids. It was interesting and informative. He’s usually pretty good about going through all the objective questions. 9:00 am Round two of Dr. Johnson’s lecture began at ten after nine. He discussed replication during this second hour. The subject was a little confusing, but Dr. Johnson welcomed student questions after the lecture was over. 10:00-12:00pm Microanatomy lecture with Dr. Hikida is always fun. My colleagues and I usually help each other out with the slides so the lab session is pretty constructive. I figure the more I get done in lab, the less time I have to spend outside of class to complete my slides. 12:00 pm There is an hour of lunch before CBL starts so a few of my colleagues and I go over the morning’s lecture notes, while eating lunch. This allows us to complete our daily review and compare important notes that we may have missed. 1:00-3:00 pm CBL was quite productive today. Our case involved a patient with sickle cell anemia. I was the discussion leader so I had to be on my toes that afternoon. I was happy to see that everyone in the group came prepared with questions and answers to share, regarding our case. We also developed some more learning issues to be discussed at the next CBL session. 3:00-5:00pm Clinical Skills class is always fun with Dr. Clay and his teaching assistants. Dr. Marazon and the other physicians usually have great stories to tell. They also offered helpful pointers regarding how to take patient history. 5:30pm Nap time 6:00 pm Dinner/Shower/Email 7:00-11:00 pm I worked on my daily objectives from the morning’s lectures. I find answering objective questions on my own is very helpful because it cuts down on my weekly review session hours. It also refreshed my memory regarding what was covered that day. 11:00-11:45 pm Since my fiancée lives in Texas, I make time to talk to him each night before bed. We usually discuss how our day went. This is my time to relax and forget about classes before bed. 12:00am Bed-time. Today was a long day! Tomorrow should be much better…at least shorter.
