In the study of the interaction between a parasite and its host, we have recently concentrated on the effect that an intracellular parasite has on its host cell. It appears that the host cell membrane becomes increasingly permeable allowing antibody molecules to enter and effect the parasite's ability to egress from the cell. This activity could represent a novel protective mechanism for antibody during infection. Edwin Rowland, Ph.D.
