CPC Case Processing Model
Think about opening with a short icebreaker to help the students bond and start on a good note.
http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/fd/links.htm#Ice_Breakers
1. Presentation (subjective/objective…critiqued and commented on by students)
2. Problem list (plus addressing drugs/drug names & medical terms)
3. Differential diagnosis (what does/does not support these –at least one per problem)
4. Lab/diagnostics (tests they want to check DDx’s)
5. Discussion (What does all of this mean?)
6. Refine differential diagnoses (What? Why?)
7. Revisit problem list (What else?)
8. Agree on how to handle discussion questions and identify any learning issues of interest
9. Wrap-up (each evaluate own performance on cases, peers, groups, facilitators –reflect!)
10. Case discussion questions (add Core Competencies, psycho/social issues, personal)
11. Treatment plan/manage problem
12. Discuss learning issues
13. Forward unresolved learning issues to S & I Committee
14. Assign cases for next week
15. Wrap-up (each evaluate own performance on cases, peers, groups, facilitators –reflect!)
1. Read/review case (become a case expert!)
2. Identify resources (the ones you like and some extra to share)
3. EBM (guide students in developing questions to investigate)
4. Use and refer to schema and Standardized Clinical Behaviors
5. Images (use, suggest, post, request)
6. Graphs? Charts? (have students develop)
7. Practice presentation for different specialties
8. Develop list of new words/terms/jargon of medicine - grow it with each case
9. Review drugs and class and mechanism
10. Review Block BlackBoard site for lectures, reading assignments, and additional resources (if you find some useful ones send to CPC Service Center at 408 Grosvenor (72957).
