Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) Resources

- Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) EBM Resources:  http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/ebm/

"Evidence-based medicine is a natural evolution in medicine that fits very well into the osteopathic philosophy.  Historically, physicians practiced medicine without any significant research literature basis.  The next step, then, was to develop a literature base that supported what physicians did.  Evidence-based medicine is a third step, which is to take the literature base, combine it with what you know about the patient, their values, the patient's personality, their physical examination, and their history, and develop a treatment plan that has a strong basis in the medical literature.  This is a priority for our College.  I would like to see almost all therapy that we teach in the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine based on the research literature and integrated with the patient's unique clinical situation."

"This is a collection of tools for identifying, assessing and applying relevant evidence for better health care decision-making.  The appraisal tools are adapted from the Users' Guides series prepared by the Evidence Based Medicine Working Group and originally published in JAMA"
