This line of funding is specifically tailored for students who have successfully completed their first year at OU-HCOM. Research opportunities are available in clinical and basic biomedical research. The Student Enhancement Awards, sponsored by the Ohio University Council for Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity, assists undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, under the guidance of a faculty mentor, by providing funds for research and presentation of their research at professional conferences. The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF), sponsored by the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, provides an opportunity for prospective medical student applicants to conduct research under the guidance of a faculty mentor. In addition to laboratory research, students attend weekly seminars and present their findings at the end of the summer. A stipend provided by the College of Osteopathic Medicine covers the cost of room and board for 8 weeks during the summer.
