Configure OAK Autoforward

University OAK Account

The University provides every student and employee an email acccount on the OAK system. This is by default the email address that's published on campus and worldwide. Users of OAK have an address book that lists the OAK addresses of everyone else at OU, which means that if someone outside of OU-COM were to send an email to an OU-COM faculty of staff member, it is likely that the email will be sent to an OAK account.

Short-Form Addresses

Everyone at OU has a short-form email address of the form username@ohiou.edu. The short-form address is what the University publishes, both in the paper Campus Directory and on the web-based directories. By default, each short-form address delivers mail to a corresponding OAK account. To learn your own short-form address, visit http://www.cns.ohiou.edu/email/ and click on What's my Email Address?? and follow the directions on the resulting page.

How to Live and Work at OU-COM Without Using OAK

Fortunately for faculty and staff at OU-COM, it is not necessary to check both an OAK account and the OU-COM MS-Exchange mailbox.

OAK can be configured to auto-forward to another email address. First, if you have not yet activated you OAK account--or if you have forgotten your OAK password--visit the CNS Support Center on the 3rd floor of the HDL Center and ask them to activate your account. You'll need to show them your OU ID card. Once your OAK account is activated, visit http://www.cns.ohiou.edu/email/, and click on Set email forwarding on your OAK account. You'll be prompted for your OAK username and password. Type your OU-COM MS-Exchange address on the resulting screen and click on Confirm Change. (click for sample screen.) If you don't know your OU-COM Exchange address, contact John Brennan at 3-0208.

The short-form addresses can also be configured to deliver mail to another email address. Visit http://www.cns.ohiou.edu/email/, and click on Modify your Online Directory Entry. (click for sample screen.) Click to put a dot next to Email Forwarding Address and click Modify Attribute. Type your OU-COM Exchange address into the resulting screen and click Confirm Change. You will be prompted for your OAK username and password. (click for sample screen.)
