Glimpse Into Gross Anatomy

see inside the Gross Anatomy Lab? On March 12, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., starting

Kincaid, director of Anatomical Service and the Willed Body Program,
will open the doors of his world and provide visitors with a peek at what
medical students learn in the gross anatomy labs (yes, there are two!) and the
technology the labs employ, and a unique look into the world of plastination,
a polymer chemistry process that makes it possible to preserve individual

Faculty
Development Tidbit: “How to Get Students Actively Thinking In A Lecture
Situation”
A major problem with
lecture is that students assume a passive, non-thinking, information receiving
role. If they are to remember and use the information, they need to be
actively engaged in thinking about the content presented. One easy and effective
device is the “Minute Paper.” The Minute Paper is, as its title indicates, a
paper written in one (to three) minute(s). Here’s
how:
Announce
at the beginning of the class that you will interrupt your lecture midway
through the period so that students may write a one-minute paper on a topic
derived from the lecture or that you will ask them at the end of the lecture to
write about the most important thing they learned. As an alternative, you
could ask them to write the most important thing they learned from a previous
lecture. Use this occasionally to help students more acutely reflect on and
integrate lecture content into their active knowledge bases.
