Warren General Hospital Foundation endows OU-COM scholarship Warren General Hospital Foundation has endowed a new osteopathic medical scholarship at OU-COM with a gift of more than $72,000. This marks the Ohio University Foundation’s first major gift of the fiscal year.
The Warren General Hospital Foundation Endowed Scholarship supports incoming full-time OU-COM students who demonstrate financial need and are permanent residents of either Trumbull or Mahoning Counties.
“The foundation wanted to directly support osteopathic medical students from Trumbull and Mahoning Counties to continue the memory of Warren General Hospital,” said James A. Lazor, D.O., a member of the Warren General Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees.

Summer programs conclude weeks of training Over the past two weeks, we have bid farewell to our Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) participants and Summer Scholars.
This summer’s four SURF fellows conducted research in fields of microanatomy, molecular biology and pathology. One SURF fellow traveled to Ecuador to conduct research with OU-COM’s Tropical Disease Institute.
True to its mission to promote diversity in osteopathic medical education, 13 of the 22 Summer Scholars were African-American and two came from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds. The majority of these students interviewed for admission to OU-COM for the fall 2010 quarter.
The two programs, the SURF and Summer Scholars, offer medical research opportunities and an intensive introduction to the challenges of medical school, respectively.
