D.O. Day on the Hill overlaps ACOFP convention
The 2009 D.O. Day on the Hill, when osteopathic medical physicians and students travel to Washington, D.C., to lobby Congress, will occur Friday, March 5—during the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians 46th Annual Convention and Exhibition, also in D.C.
At least 43 OU-COM students plan to attend this year’s D.O. Day, along with Peter Bell, D.O., assistant dean of CORE administration.
Meanwhile, the ACOFP convention will be held Thursday, March 4, through Sunday, March 8 at the Gaylord National Resort in D.C. Although pre-registration is closed, registration can be conducted at the convention on-site.
At the ACOFP 2009 Convention, Jan D. Zieren, D.O., M.P.H., will be elected president of ACOFP.
William Burke, D.O. (’88) on new rules of medical etiquette

Having graduated from OU-COM 20 years ago, Burke, program director for Doctors Hospital Family Practice residency program, noted key changes in standards of professional conduct in medicine.

Rosemary Butcher, administrative coordinator in academic affairs, was honored as Ohio University’s Classified Employee of the Month for January.
Internship available
The application deadline for the 2010 Osteopathic Health Policy Intern (OHPI) Program in Washington, D.C., is March 1. For program and application information, go to: www.aacom.org/events/intern/Pages/default.aspx.
2009 OOA Convention poster exhibition seeks abstracts
The Ohio Osteopathic Association and the CORE announce a call for abstracts for the 2009 Research Poster Exhibition and Competition, to be held at the 111th OOA Convention. Deadline for abstracts is Friday, March 20.
The poster exhibition is open to all convention participants. Exhibition posters can present clinical/biomedical research, case reports and health policy or educational issues.
The poster competition will be restricted to student, intern and resident projects; these will be restricted to clinical and/or biomedical research and case reports.
Summer research fellowship available
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has announced its Summer Musculoskeletal Outcomes Research Fellowship, for medical students who will begin their second year in fall 2009.
The fellowship times are flexible, lasting about nine weeks between June and August. Fellows work in the center’s Division of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, under the supervision of Charles Mehlman, D.O. (’89), M.P.H.
At the end of the program, each fellow will have completed a manuscript for submission to an orthopaedic journal for publication. Fellows are paid $11/hour.
