Grosvenor Hall renovations to impact access
Continuing work on the new Clinical Training and Assessment Center in Grosvenor Hall this month will impact use of student lockers and accessibility to the building’s ground floor.
All student lockers in the hallways on the ground floor will be removed Friday, Dec. 10, after noon in preparation for removal of corridor carpeting and underlying tile, as well as continued asbestos abatement. The lockers will be replaced by Monday, Jan. 3, 2011, according to Dean Dupler, director of facilities management.
Beginning Friday, Dec. 17, at 5 p.m., the entire ground floor of Grosvenor Hall will close for the work, and will not reopen until Wednesday, Dec. 22. The building will still be accessible by normal entry onto the first floor, and elevators will be operational but closed off to ground floor entry during that time, said Robin Faires, AUID, project manager for the renovation work.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Join your
colleagues for holiday food drive
Please join OU-COM in making the holidays a bit brighter for some
area families who are in need. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to
join this college-wide holiday food drive, the proceeds of which go to
support the Diabetes Free Clinic patients.
During this year’s WinterBlast, Wednesday, Dec. 15,
non-perishable food will be collected; the food will be distributed as part
of the Diabetes Free Clinic monthly food distributions to those patients in
need of food assistance.
Items such as canned goods, especially those that are high in
protein and sugar-free, will be accepted. Cash donations to support the
purchase of additional food will also be accepted.
Last year, staff members of the college’s offices of admissions,
student affairs, medical development and alumni affairs, research and
grants, institutional assessment, and communication collected nearly 300
pounds of boxed and canned goods for the Athens County Food Bank. This year,
those departments will join the rest of the college, including students, to
collect food for Diabetes Free Clinic patients.
A non-perishable food wish list containing diabetes appropriate choices include: peanut butter, canned tuna (in water), dried beans, peas, lentils, whole grain pasta, hot and cold cereals (unsweetened), 100% fruit juice, canned fruit (in water or juice), unsweetened applesauce, canned tomato products (low sodium and regular), salsa, canned beans and vegetables, chicken broth (low fat, low sodium), olive oil/canola oil, sugar free pudding or gelatin mixes, V-8 juice (low sodium), sugar free instant breakfast drink mix.
Sigma Sigma Phi Giving Tree
All 75 ornaments on the Sigma Sigma Phi Giving Tree have been claimed. This effort will help provide gifts to children of Athens County who might not, otherwise, receive gifts this holiday season. Each ornament on the tree listed the name of a child, his or her age, and gift ideas for that child. All gifts should be wrapped, tagged and returned to the Office of Student Affairs by Monday, Dec. 13.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Faculty Development Tidbit: Stimulate Classroom Discussion
Get those discussions started by beginning class with a discussion of an “issue of the day.” Discussions can last for 10-15 minutes and can revolve around issues of the field or discipline, an issue from current events (as it relates to your course content), or a generic campus issue.
